Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the Muza Competition in Tirana, one of the coolest cultural and artistic events in Albania. Traveling from the U.S. to participate was a decision fueled by my deep passion for cultural events, a desire to contribute to the artistic community, and an eagerness to reconnect with my heritage. Muza Competition is not just an event; it’s a vibrant platform that brings together artists from around the world, fostering connections and celebrating creativity in ways that transcend borders.

This year marked my first experience with Muza, and it was truly special to witness the intricate designs up close and share this moment with my cousin and close friend, who both live in Tirana. These are the cherished memories that we live for, and I’m always looking for ways to create more of them together. Attending Muza made me proud of our Albanian roots and offered a unique chance to celebrate our culture and artistry with some of the biggest names in the industry. The event was a source of artistic inspiration that I carried back with me to the U.S.

Upon arriving at the Muza Competition, I was immediately captivated by the warm atmosphere and the meticulous organization that surrounded the event. The welcoming ambiance created a close-knit feeling among participants and artists, making the experience even more memorable. The beautifully decorated venue exceeded my expectations, adding a touch of sophistication to every moment.

The presence of renowned personalities like photographer Fadil Berisha, supermodel Emina Çunmulaj, and acclaimed designer Nicole Miller gave the event an international dimension and a special glow. Their involvement not only highlighted the significance of Muza but also underscored its role as a vital platform for showcasing Albanian talent and culture on the global stage.

One of the highlights of Muza was encountering new designs and meeting emerging artists. A particularly memorable moment for me was meeting Erion Veliaj, the Mayor of Tirana, along with his wife and son. His dedication to Tirana and Albania has always inspired me, and it was a privilege to finally meet him and have a conversation. I also had the honor of speaking with Fadil Berisha about his thoughts on the event and with Nicole Miller about her experiences in Albania, her fashion designs, and our shared connection to the U.S. These interactions left a lasting impression and enriched my experience at Muza.

Art has always played a significant role in my personal connection to Albania and the world, and it has also influenced my academic studies at Johns Hopkins University. Art serves as a powerful tool in diplomacy and international relations, with the ability to connect diverse cultures and people by expressing shared emotions, values, and histories. Through art, we can build strong bridges of understanding and cooperation, promoting dialogue and mutual respect between different communities and nations. Art also offers a platform for expressing complex issues and highlighting common human themes, contributing to conflict resolution and fostering a collaborative international spirit.

To all the young Albanians studying abroad, my advice is to keep your cultural heritage alive and to proudly promote it. Engaging in events like Muza Competition is a meaningful way to stay connected to our roots and to share our rich culture with the world. Be open, get involved, and showcase your artistic and design talents. By participating, you not only present our culture in an innovative and inspiring way but also help protect and promote Albania's cultural legacy on a global scale.
